Bury Metropolitan Borough Council have a community fund which is administered on their behalf by the Community Foundation for Greater Manchester.
Bury Community Fund
The Bury Community Fund’s current funding priority is to encourage and support grassroot community activity. Organisations applying for funding should be running projects which address at least one of the following priorities or one of those detailed in the Township plans:
- Improved employment opportunities
- Improved community and safety
- Improved health and well-being
- Learning opportunities for local residents
- Community cohesion, community pride and belonging
- Environmental improvements
The fund does not support larger, more sophisticated organisations that have a trackrecord of attracting funding, particularly when such groups have a turnover of more than £150,000 a year.
Each Township will provide small grants of up to £250 per application. Projects which benefit people from across 2 or more Townships can apply for a cross ward grant of up to £500

'I Will If You Will' Community Fund
The 'I Will If You Will' community fund is for projects which will help to identify women and girls barriers to undertaking a physically active lifestyle throughout various stages of their life course. The applicant project should offer an activity or event that is achievable and accessible to facilitate the shift in attitudes and behaviours of women in Bury.
One of the fundamental success measures will be the baseline number of women and girls who are achieving the recommended 1 x 30 minutes of exercise per week. The project should focus on behavioural change and be linked to increasing the participation of women and girls aged 14+ into a physically active lifestyle.
Further information is available on the 'Community Funding' page.
Voluntary Sector Funding Pages:
The council's website provides information on the Compact agreement with the voluntary sector within Bury, in additional to a database of local community contacts such as voluntary groups, organisations and societies.
However, the website doesn't provide any signposting to the Greater Manchester Community Foundation, who administer the only grants scheme provided by the council.
This scheme is broad reaching and simple. Full and up-to-date information on the Bury MBC Community Fund is available from the Community Foundation's website, which includes relevant contact details, deadlines, criteria and application forms.

Our ratings are by no means a final verdict, just a starting point to begin discussions about the voluntary sector’s experience of government funders. We are inviting all subscribers to share their experiences and contribute to the DSC Funder Rating. If you can help, please email us at email@example.com.
