Schemes:

Bradford Metropolitan District Council only have one small grant scheme available for voluntary sector groups, which is a Community Chest that provides of up to £500 for community and voluntary organisations.

Special consideration will be given to particular target groups including the elderly, disabled, youth, ethnic minorities, unemployed and to particular communities (e.g. inner city areas, council estates etc) and to new starts and innovatory schemes.

The Community Chest funds are divided up into the different areas of Bradford Metropolitan District Council: Bradford North; Bradford South; Bradford West; Shipley; and Keighley. Each area has its own representative for the fund, details of which can be found under 'Neighbourhood Support Service' at the following link: Bradford Community Chests

Many local authorities are now moving away from grant-making and beginning to use commissioning as a way to distribute funding to the third sector. Local commissioners can be difficult to find and identify, however NAVCA have created a guide that may help: 'Finding your commissioner'

Bradford Metropolitan Borough Council has no Third Sector Liaison Officer or equivalent position; however there is a community funding unit that can provide information on external funding, and a search engine 'bfunded', that can be used to search for all local and central government funding schemes.

The Community Chest fund is advertised on the council's website, however it is not easy to find and there are no specific pages for funding or voluntary sector issues.

Despite this, staff at the council were very helpful in answering questions and were happy to be contacted at a later date.

What is the DSC Funder Rating?

We need your help

Our ratings are by no means a final verdict, just a starting point to begin discussions about the voluntary sector’s experience of government funders. We are inviting all subscribers to share their experiences and contribute to the DSC Funder Rating. If you can help, please email us at ratings@governmentfunding.org.uk.
